Douro Valley & Vinho Verde Tour

Douro Valley & Vinho Verde Tour

In this Tour you will get to know two of the most interesting Wine producing regions of Portugal: The Douro Valley and the Vinho Verde Region!

The Douro Valley almost needs no introduction, being the oldest Demarcated Region of the World (1756), which was considered a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2001. This is where Port Wine was invented and still is king, but Douro DOC Reds and White are really standing out too.

On the other hand you have the Vinho Verde Region, a place that started getting popular much more recently with this type of wine that surprises and amazes on the first sip by its refreshing acidity, floral smell and frutier taste. You cannot miss this dynamic duo!

You will be picked-up in Porto and start the journey East towards Amarante, perfectly placed halfway between Porto and the Douro Valley, but actually inside the Vinho Verde Region!

Here you will visit the Saint Gonçalo Church and learn about the interesting architecture that draws from several different styles. Gain insight into the religious references found in those architectural styles that lends to its uniqueness. Now delight your palate with some delicious local pastries!

We start making our way to the Douro Valley and our next stop is going to be one of the most beautiful viewpoints of the region where you’ll really appreciate the magnificence of the area. Still on this stunning scenery we’ll get to enjoy a regional lunch at a local restaurant paired with Douro House Wine.

Now, with your stomach filled, we’ll head to the first wine estate of the day in the heart of the Douro region, where you will get to know a family run Wine Estate that is a beautiful example of the range of extraordinary products you can get in the Valley as they produce Douro DOC and Port Wine, Olive Oil and Nuts! Understand how the effects of the region's climate and rich soil influence the grapes, learn about the special storage techniques that result in these distinctive flavours and hear about the preparation of both unfortified and fortified wines.

Then, we’ll drive next to the river on one of the most beautiful roads in the world on the way to our next Wine Estate of the day. Here you’ll finally get introduced to this fascinating type of wine which is the Vinho Verde. This is an historic Wine Estate that sits at a border area where the Douro River influences the terroir and here you’ll have the chance of getting to know their history and taste their delicious wine.
